Step 1
This simple recipe for sweet pastries includes shortbread dough (see here how to make it), fresh apples (sweet and sour are best), butter, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, egg whites, lemon juice, and almond petals (this is optional).
Step 2
Take the prepared shortbread dough and place it in a wide baking dish. Be sure to make edges and punctures with a fork. Place in a preheated oven to bake at 180 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Step 3
In the meantime, let's prepare the filling. Pour 120 grams of granulated sugar into a frying pan and add 100 grams of soft butter.
Step 4
Over medium heat, turn everything into caramel. Adjust its thickness to taste.
Step 5
Place peeled apples, cut into medium slices, into boiling caramel.
Step 6
Cook until the apples become slightly soft. Then add ground cinnamon and mix.
Step 7
Take out the apple slices and place them in a separate bowl. Pour the excess liquid that forms at the bottom back into the pan.
Step 8
Now you need to cook thick, rich caramel. To do this, simply evaporate everything over medium heat until thick.
Step 9
The sand base is baked. Place apple slices on it.
Step 10
Drizzle caramel on top.
Step 11
If desired, sprinkle with flaked almonds.
Step 12
Now quickly make the meringue. To do this, beat cold egg whites with a mixer, gradually adding 4 tablespoons of sugar. At the end, pour a spoonful of lemon juice. The meringue turns out dense and holds its shape perfectly.
Step 13
Place the meringue on top of the apples, smooth it out and sprinkle with almonds again.
Step 14
Cook the apple pie for 30 minutes at 160 degrees until the meringue browns and sets. Then it will look like a very tender marshmallow.
Step 15
Serve open apple pie with meringue warm or chilled. Bon appetit!
