Step 1
To make breadcrumbs at home, we need any white bread, loaf, baguette, or savory bun. But the softer and airier the baked goods, the more crumbly, tender and crunchy the breadcrumbs will be.
Step 2
Cut the bread into not very thin pieces of uniform thickness.
Step 3
Place on a baking sheet (I recommend lining it with parchment).
Step 4
Dry the pieces of bread in the oven at 180-190 degrees for about 15 minutes (turn each piece over after 7-8 minutes) until nicely browned and brittle. Just make sure that the crackers do not burn, otherwise they will taste bitter.
Step 5
Let the breadcrumbs cool. Then we grind them in any convenient way — you can, like I did, in a food processor (attachment — Metal knife) or just put them in a bag and roll them with a rolling pin. And it’s even better and more convenient (I’ve been doing this lately) to grind the crackers through a meat grinder (especially if you have an electric one). At the same time, thanks to this procedure, sharpen your knives in it. True, there is one BUT: do not dry the crackers until they become brittle, there is a high chance of breaking the electric meat grinder. I speak from experience, yes…
Step 6
After half a minute I got this little crumb. By the way, you can adjust the size of this crumb yourself — some people like very fine breadcrumbs, while others prefer larger ones. If you wish, you can add salt, your favorite spices and seasonings to the breadcrumbs — then you will get a ready-made, aromatic breading.
Step 7
Pour the breadcrumbs into a clean, dry bowl.
Step 8
Store under an airtight lid to prevent the crackers from becoming damp or moldy. By the way, in recent years my favorite way to store breadcrumbs is in the freezer (in a tightly sealed bag). In total, from 500 grams of white homemade bread, I got about 320 grams of crackers. But the yield of the product largely depends on the degree of drying and the initial qualities of the bread.
Step 9
And now you can easily prepare a lot of different dishes using homemade breadcrumbs: meat fillet, chicken, cutlets, chops, cheese, cabbage, fish and seafood, and many others. I hope it was useful to you. Cook for your health and bon appetit, friends!
