Homemade simple ketchup made from tomato paste

Detailed step-by-step recipe with photos: Step 1

  • Prepare the ingredients to make simple homemade tomato paste ketchup.

Choose quality tomato paste. It shouldn't be bitter. Tasteless pasta is a bad result.

Most often I add a spoonful of apple cider vinegar. But then, having tried it, I realized that I didn’t want it, because the acid was quite enough. This is the peculiarity of pasta from different companies — the tastes are at least slightly different.

Sugar can easily be replaced with maple syrup or honey.

I did it 800 grams of ready-made homemade ketchup.

  • Step 2

    Mix tomato paste with water.

You may need more or less water. Water is needed to dilute the tomato paste to the consistency you need. Here it is definitely impossible to give ideal grams or milliliters, since the thickness of the paste from different manufacturers can and most likely will differ. My paste is quite thick.

  • Step 3

Stir everything until smooth. The paste is thick, do not leave any lumps.

  • Step 4

First add salt and sugar, stir and taste.

Adjust to your liking. Don't forget, if we are talking about comparison with store-bought ketchup, then the sugar should be felt. Ketchups are generally quite sweet.

  • Step 5

Add the rest of the seasonings: both types of peppers, dry garlic, mustard and cinnamon. Place over medium heat and simmer for a couple of minutes.

I offer you my composition of seasonings, which has already been tested and loved more than once. Here you can already add and change, increase or decrease.

  • Step 6

Be sure to cover the ketchup with a lid.

Even at the lightest boil, the ketchup shoots and splashes a lot. This can be seen from my lid.

  • Step 7

Use any method convenient for you to sterilize the container in which you will keep homemade ketchup.

I always rinse the jars and put them in the microwave for a couple. I rinse food-grade plastic jars with hot, boiled water.

  • Step 8

You can easily use an empty commercial ketchup bottle.

I used to always do this, because as soon as the ketchup was homemade, the children began to look for flaws. And here everything is no problem, everyone likes it. Cheating for good 🙂

  • Step 9

While still hot, pour the ketchup into jars or bottles, let cool and put in the refrigerator.

Well, who can tell the difference from a store-bought one? It actually tastes very similar. This ketchup jar hack is perfect for picky and fussy kids and teens. Verified 🙂

  • Step 10

Simple homemade tomato paste ketchup is ready.

    Bon appetit!
