Puff roses with apples in the oven

Detailed step-by-step recipe with photos: Step 1

  • Prepare all the ingredients and utensils for making puff pastries. Thaw the dough well as directed on the package. For utensils, we will need a sharp knife, a rolling pin and a baking tray or muffin tin, as well as baking parchment.

  • Step 2

Wash the apples. Cut into quarters, remove core and seeds. Cut into very thin slices. The thinner the slices, the more beautiful and tastier the roses will be. If you can’t cut thinly with a knife, you can use a vegetable peeler or a special grater. There is no need to peel the peel; it will create beautiful petals for future roses. There is also no need to water the apples with lemon juice; we will add it to the syrup.

  • Step 3

Pour water into a saucepan and place on high heat. Add the juice of half a lemon and 3 tablespoons of sugar, stir and bring the water to a boil. This amount of dressing is indicated exactly for 1 liter of water; if you have more water, then the amount of sugar and lemon also needs to be increased.

  • Step 4

As soon as the water boils, lower the apple slices. Stir and cook in boiling water for 2-4 minutes until the slices are soft and flexible. Mix carefully so as not to break the slices. Fire is medium.

  • Step 5

Carefully remove the apples with a slotted spoon and place on a sieve to drain excess moisture. Remove to cool. It is very important to drain excess water from the apples, as it will prevent the dough from baking.

  • Step 6

Roll out the defrosted puff pastry into a rectangular layer about 2-3 mm thick. If the dough sticks, sprinkle a little flour on the counter.

  • Step 7

Sprinkle the dough with cinnamon and 2 tbsp. sugar, spread evenly over the entire surface. At this stage, you can optionally add a vanilla pod or vanilla sugar.

  • Step 8

Cut the dough into strips approximately 3-4 cm wide.

  • Step 9

Now comes the fun part! Place apple slices on the strip, overlapping, 1 cm from the edge. Each slice is a petal. Place them so that the rounded part with the peel protrudes slightly beyond the top edge of the dough. Each next “petal” should overlap the previous one by about half.

If the slices are still very wet, dry them with a paper towel.

  • Step 10

Fold the bottom of the dough (without apples) so that it covers the bottom of the future petals. If desired, you can place apple slices on this layer, similar to the previous step. This will make the roses even more magnificent.

  • Step 11

Roll the strip of apples into a loose roll. Try to keep the first “petals” in the center, and the subsequent ones open outward. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees, low setting.

  • Step 12

The roses can be placed on a baking sheet lightly greased with butter or on baking paper. I baked on special parchment baskets to prevent the roses from sticking. You can also use muffin tins.

Bake puff roses in the oven at 170 degrees, low setting only. If you turn on the top heat, the apple petals may burn, and the dough will not have time to bake.

    Bake for 25-30 minutes.

  • Step 13

Check the roses for doneness. The bottom should be completely baked and the top should be golden. Roses can be served warm, but I like them cooled. I cool them on a wire rack. While the roses are hot, you can coat them with honey or apricot jam to make them shine.

  • Step 14

When serving, you can sprinkle puff roses with apples with powdered sugar and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Bon appetit!
