Fine on the onions are chopped with cubes. If you like the taste of green onions, then they can replace onion. Or use one and the other in an arbitrary proportion.

Grate the carrots or chop thin strips. The chopped carrots in the finished porridge will be al denta — slightly dense. Therefore, if you want the carrots to become soft, you should grate it on a fine grater.
If desired, onions and carrots can be fried in vegetable oil on low heat until half -cooked.

During cooking, porridge usually puffs and flopes. It turns out a viscous consistency of medium density. Therefore, it is better to take a pan for cooking with a thick bottom.

The finished barley porridge on the water should be allowed to brew in the pan for 15-20 minutes. Serve to the table, sprinkled with chopped herbs.
In the water on water, according to this recipe, you can add additional vegetables, for example, bell pepper or grated zucchini chopped by straw. If you make new options each time, then your menu will become more interesting and diverse, and therefore more useful.
